Really mediocre read. Had the bones of a good story but it felt like reading a summary of it by a boring person.

  1. The Last Close Call by Laura Griffin (WM/WW, RS, serial rapist/murder)

A genetic genealogist burned out on police work & a detective desperate to clear a longer cold-case. Good friends!

CWs: murder, rape, knives, anxiety, alcoholism PT: SA, forced birth, forced adoption, religious trauma.

  1. Midlife, Murder and Magic by Lisa Bouchard (WF/PNR, 40+ WW, KU).

Unexpectedly divorcing & with new bewildering magical powers Rebecca goes back home & starts a new life & new PI job.

CWs: murder, suicide, abduction, harassment, toxic parents, adultery.

  1. Hormones, Homicides & Hexes by Lisa Bouchard (WF/PNR mystery, 40+, WW, KU)

A little messier than bk1 but I did enjoy the small town PI setting and her time with her friends and rebuilding relationships.

CWs: murder, violence, secrets, harassment, toxic family.

  1. & 38 Alpha Crew: The Mission Begins: At the Edge and Edge of Surrender by Laura Griffin (RS, WM/WW, Navy Seal, rescue)

This duology was ridiculous. Certainly a thriller and RS but omg, despite the duology I don’t believe the romance.

CWs: plane crash, murder, abduction, guns violence

  1. The Dead Letter Delivery by CJ Archer ( MHR/Mystery WM/WW, bk4)

Big revelations for Sylvia, so small movement in the Rom but the mystery felt like filler in the 2nd half.

CWs: murder, toxic parents, , guns, knives, violence, mental illness, references to abusive medical treatments.

  1. Marple by various authors (short story collection, 12 new stories)

I really enjoyed this collection both the stories that took Miss Marple new places and the ones that revisited familiar places & people. The audio was fab.

  1. Archangel’s Resurrection by Nalini Singh (BW/AM, SFFR, reunion romance)

Third time’s the charm, I struggle with all at the time the start of the book that took place in the past as this couple had several past doomed relationships.

CWs: war, toxic relationship, deaths of children.

  1. The Darkest Evening by Ann Cleeves (WW, mystery)

A young mother is killed & her son abandoned. Vera has to unravel her secrets and her relationship to the Stanhope clan

CWs: child in peril, murder, secrets, adultery, bullying, stalking.

  1. The Rising Tide by Ann Cleeves ( WW, UK-set mystery)

Past comes back to haunt old friends on an isolated island. Oof. The ending wallop me! I’m a mess!

CWs: murder, references to suicide, false rape allegations, grief, adultery, dementia, supporting POV character death. PT: death of child

  1. Archangel’s Lineage by Nalini Singh (ARC, out 4/23, Guild Hunter #16).

So great to see some human & vamp characters again! Some great resolutions to some long-standing arcs. Cried my eyes out as Elena dealt with family pain.

  1. Dangerous Waters by Toni Anderson (WM/WW, RS, KU)

When he finds an unexpected body in a wreck with his friend’s diving knife in its chest, Finn fears he & his friend are being set up.
CWs: murder, cops, sexual harassment, family estrangement , PT: DV, abandonment, cancer death of parent.

  1. Dark Waters by Toni Anderson ( WM/WW, RS, KU, age-gap, BFF’s daughter, ex-con artist)

Cross-border hunt for missing clue to why Anna’s dad has been killed while dodging killer Mercs.
Lots angst.
